Padtec Invests US$10m in Clariphy Aiming Expansion of Optical Technology to 100G and 200G
13 May 2014
(Press release) Brazilian optical technology company, Padtec, has invested US$10M in ClariPhy, which will help ClariPhy accelerate its development of next generation coherent technologies addressing data rates of 400G, 1T and beyond.
ClariPhy Communications, a leader in ultra high capacity systems on chip (SoCs) for optical networking, and Padtec, a tier-one provider of optical communications systems, announced that they have entered into a strategic partnership to deploy leading edge 100 gigabit per second (100G) and 200G coherent optical transport solutions to address tremendous data traffic growth in the Americas and other regions.
These solutions will be based on ClariPhy´s LightSpeed-II™ family of SoCs, which are currently shipping. To complement the partnership, Padtec has invested $10M in ClariPhy, which will help ClariPhy accelerate its development of next generation coherent technologies addressing data rates of 400G, 1T and beyond.
Padtec had deployed systems containing ClariPhy´s 40G LightSpeed-I coherent technology in the past, validating the ClariPhy team´s ability to innovate and execute on delivering complex SoCs that improve performance while reduce cost of ownership for network operators.
Padtec will develop a number of solutions to address cost sensitive metro networks as well as performance-driven long haul and submarine applications by leveraging the LightSpeed-II´s versatile, adaptive and scalable SoC platform, minimizing development cost while offering a rich feature set not achievable with previous generation 100G coherent technology.
The partnership will help Padtec extend its leadership position in the South American optical transport market and expand its footprint to other growth markets worldwide, using its technology and deep understanding of optical systems to expedite time to market and optimize deployment scenarios in a variety of networks, supplying operators with transport solutions at the lowest cost per bit.
The LightSpeed-II SoC platform was developed to address growing demand for the bandwidth driven by applications including cloud computing, SAN and data center connectivity, quad play services and high performance computing.
“We are honored to have Padtec join our family of world class strategic investors, as they have demonstrated ability and vision to deliver unique optical networking solutions. We look forward to a long term multi- project partnership that will be rewarding for both companies,” said Nariman Yousefi, CEO of ClariPhy.
“We utilized ClariPhy´s 40G coherent technology in the past and were impressed with the company´s strong IP portfolio and the team´s execution capability,” said Jorge Salomao, CEO of Padtec. “ClariPhy is uniquely positioned to help us deliver solutions our customers are asking for. Through our partnership and investment, we have formed an excellent relationship with ClariPhy´s leadership team and have driven tight alignment of roadmaps for coherent products at rates of 100G, 200G and beyond, spanning metro to long haul to submarine applications.”
