LAVCA Publishes Regional Directory of Over 150 Fund Managers
5 October 2009
Latin American Venture Capital Association Releases First Ever Latin American PE/VC Fund Managers Directory
The Latin American Venture Capital Association (LAVCA) has released its 2009 Yearbook, the first comprehensive directory of Latin American private equity and venture capital fund managers. The Yearbook includes profiles of over 150 firms that verified data for LAVCA, as well as an index of resources for entrepreneurs, fund managers and institutional investors.
The 2009 Yearbook is another major step forward in the effort to create a culture of transparency in Latin America’s private equity and venture capital industry. For the first time, global institutional investors will have at their fingertips a thorough listing of private capital investment options in the region.
The release of the Yearbook comes at an opportune moment, as private equity and venture capital investment is showing encouraging signs of continued growth throughout much of Latin America, the region’s major economies having weathered the global financial crisis better than most of the world. A combination of rising political commitment to the asset class from the region’s governments and positive macroeconomic forces, such as an expanding middle class and strong consumer demand, have attracted the attention of many global investors.
Eduardo Elejalde, Founding Partner of Latin America Enterprise Fund Managers and Chairman of LAVCA, stated: “Despite a global deceleration in fundraising due to the recession, Latin American pension funds remain committed to investing in private equity funds and fund managers continue to find attractive investment opportunities. While this activity is encouraging, industry growth is constrained by the lack of information available to institutional investors regarding fund managers and their performance. The issuance of the LAVCA Fund Manager’s Directory is an important step in addressing this lack of industry data.”
“Latin America has proven to be a dynamic and growing investment opportunity for private equity. The universe of proven and established private equity managers actively investing today is as strong as it’s ever been”, commented Scott Voss, Principal at HarbourVest Partners, a global fund of funds and LAVCA member firm. “LAVCA, through its research and analytics, has emerged as the industry standard for institutional investors seeking market intelligence. The Fund Managers Directory will be a valuable tool to assist the global institutional investor world in evaluating the region’s growing private equity market.”
