Brazil-based Portfolio Company of Tarpon and Warburg Pincus Acquires Wind Projects

(Valor Economico) January 18, 2011 – Omega Energia, a Brazilian renewable energy company controlled by investment firms Tarpon and Warburg Pincus, acquired small hydroelectric projects totaling 270 MW from Ecopart group and also a portfolio of wind projects, totaling of 3,000 MW.
In the case of the wind projects, Omega chose to form a holding company which owns a third of the capital, but has the option to purchase 100% of the projects that are implemented. The projects of Ecopart are valued at around R$100 million (approximately US$60M), according to the president of Omega, Antônio Augusto Bastos. But he did not disclose the value of the transaction.
