8 December 2015

(Businesswire) Open English, the leading online English-language learning school in the Americas, announced today the acquisition of Next University. With this acquisition, Open English increases its portfolio of online educational products beyond English. Next University’s digital technology certificates in high-demand areas such as Web Development, Android Apps Development, and Software Development in JavaScript represent a dynamic line-up of products Open English can now offer its current and prospective students. Similar to Open English, Next University offers its students a high quality and convenient educational experience that is only possible through an online platform.

Open English se une a NextUniversity. ¡Juntos por más oportunidades de educación en Latinoamérica! Tweet this “The combination of Open English and Next University is a perfect fit and a natural progression in the life cycle of these two companies, as we offer a complementary value proposition to our students,” asserts Andres Moreno, Founder and CEO of Open English and Founder of Next University. “Through my experience since founding Open English seven years ago, I have learned that there is a vast need for making education more accessible to all. Just like speaking English, acquiring digital technology skills also provides a path to access the highest demand jobs,” he adds.

As the most successful education technology company in Latin America, Open English has embarked on an ambitious plan to expand its geographical reach and its line of products, and the acquisition of Next University serves as a catalyst for this strategy.

“Next University has a very similar operational model to that of Open English, and we share the same views in terms of product quality and adding value to our students, including a focus on live instruction as an essential part of the learning experience,” notes Greg Kress, President and COO of Open English. “With over 450K student enrollments at Open English, we are now ready to take those lessons learned and apply them to the Next University model,” Kress concludes.

On a similar note, CEO of Next University, Gabriel Montoya, adds: “We have had a short but very successful trajectory, and the exponential enrollment growth we have seen in the last few months is a testament to the growing demand for digital competencies in the workplace. To have the support of an experienced and successful team like Open English’s will allow us to focus on improving our academic offering, learning experience, and the overall satisfaction of our students,” explains Montoya.

As the companies begin the integration process, students from Open English and Next University will receive many benefits, including preferential terms on any of the educational products offered by either institution.

“As Latin America moves towards the information economy, an Android Apps developer definitively has a bright future, but a bilingual Android Apps developer has an even brighter one,” remarks Moreno.
