The Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) went into effect in Europe in March 2020, creating important new requirements for fund managers seeking to raise capital on the continent, as well as for ESG reporting.

In this timely session, we will explore:

    • The key elements of the SFDR, and how funds have been managing the new requirements
    • The impact of the reporting for fund managers in Asia, Latin America, Africa, CEE and the Middle East
    • Expected changes in ESG reporting

Phil Davis
Director of ESG, Helios Investment Partners

Mr. Davis joined Helios in August 2020, taking responsibility for Helios’ ESG activities across the investment lifecycle. He has 14 years of relevant professional experience, working in over 25 countries around the world. He was previously Head of Sustainability for EMEA at The Carlyle Group. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Director in the Sustainability and Climate Change Consulting team at PwC, and was previously an Environmental Consultant at AMEC Earth & Environmental UK Ltd. Mr. Davis holds a BSc in Environmental Management from the University of Birmingham and safety management certification from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

 

Jin-Hyuk Jang
International Counsel, Debevoise & Plimpton

Jin-Hyuk Jang is an international counsel based in the Frankfurt office and a member of the firm’s Funds/Investment Management Group and the Corporate Department. He advises sponsors on the structuring of investment funds covering numerous sectors and strategies including private equity, real
estate, infrastructure, venture capital and credit funds as well as on any regulatory matters in connection with managing, advising and marketing private funds. He also advises regulated institutional investors on fund investments. He has deep experience of private fund-related aspects of European financial regulation, including investment, insurance and banking
regulatory issues.

Mr. Jang studied law at Goethe University in Frankfurt, the University of Milan and the University of Münster. Prior to joining Debevoise in 2017, he was a counsel at a leading German law firm and an associate at a major U.S. law firm in Frankfurt. Mr. Jang was admitted to the Frankfurt Bar in 2010. He is a native German speaker and fluent in English.

 

Patricia Volhard
Partner, Debevoise & Plimpton

Patricia Volhard is a partner in Debevoise’s Frankfurt and London offices and is a member of the firm’s Private Equity and Funds/Investment Management Groups. Her practice focuses on advising private funds (including on a range of European regulatory issues and structuring funds for EU insurance companies and pension funds).

Ms. Volhard is one of Europe’s leading private funds regulatory lawyers and has played a prominent role in the ongoing development of the area, in part through involvement in Invest Europe (formerly the European Private Equity & Venture Capital Association). She is the former Chair of its Tax, Legal & Regulatory Committee, as well as the current chair of its Financial Services/Regulatory Working Group. She is also a member of the Investment Management Consultative Working Group of the European Securities and
Markets Authority (“ESMA”); the Legal Committee of BVK, the German private equity association; the Alternative Credit Technical Group of the Alternative Investment Management Association; and the Regulatory Committee of the Listed Private Equity Association.

Ms. Volhard studied law in Frankfurt/Main, Strasbourg, and at the London School of Economics, where she obtained her LL.M. in 1999. Ms. Volhard is admitted to practise in Germany and France, and speaks fluent German, French and English.
