The pandemic is unevenly affecting people and nowhere is this more true than its effect on women. Working parents—and primarily working mothers—are experiencing not only heavy job losses but seemingly insurmountable childcare and mental-health crises due to Covid- 19. Globally, women’s jobs are 1.8 times more vulnerable than men’s jobs due to the crisis.

This threatens women’s economic gains globally as they fall behind—and may stay behind— creating a lost generation of women’s labour-force participation. Covid-19 has forced us all to consider our collective workforce and what each one of us needs to work effectively. A competitive workplace fuses inclusive, empathetic leadership that advances racial and gender equity with long-term, innovative policies that protect workers and communities.

This year’s theme is ‘Gamechangers’ – and the focus is on activism. We are highlighting individuals who are driving progress on gender equality in their respective industries, and looking at how to turn words into action. What lessons can we learn from them that can be applied to our own work and lives?
