(Palmfund) January 18, 2011 – Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, announced that it has acquired Legal Publishing Group operations in Argentina and Chile, which include premier publisher Abeledo Perrot. Legal Publishing Group is controlled by the regional Private Equity firm Palmfund Management, (”Palmfund”) run by Carlos E. Gomez, Managing Partner of the Firm.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition extends Thomson Reuters’ strategy to develop world-class information, software and workflow solutions for legal and tax and accounting professionals around the world.
Abeledo Perrot, one of the most prestigious Argentinean legal publishers, has more than 3,000 professional titles in its portfolio as well as traditional legal magazines from Jurisprudencia Argentina and De Palma.
In Chile, Legal Publishing Group has a long history of developing and publishing high-quality content in legal, regulatory, tax, labor and foreign trade matters. The business serves the needs of more than 90 universities, and offers solutions to accounting professionals and more than 200 governmental departments. Their main products include legal magazine Gaceta Jurídica, software Hyper Renta and their line of Manuales de Consulta.
Legal Publishing Group was created in 2008 when Palmfund Management acquired 100% of the Chile, Argentina and Mexico operations of Lexis Nexis from Reed Elsevier. Palmfund successfully turned around the business by strengthening the management team, rationalizing the product offering while supporting investment in the core higher value added products for its clients and streamlining the regional operations.
