An increasing number of US and Latin American family offices and high net worth individuals are looking at making their first commitments to the region’s new generation of PE/VC managers. While large pension funds and sovereign wealth funds typically target managers with over $500m AUM, the universe of LatAm firms managing smaller funds is a natural fit for investors writing smaller tickets. I was in San Francisco recently to speak at the Endeavor Entrepreneur Summit and to meet with tech investors who have been heading south to São Paulo and Buenos Aires to close their first deals in Latin America. I found that as the market for consumer Internet plays bubbles over in the US, the number of Silicon Valley VCs backing tech startups in the region is fast expanding. Read more

Last week I took part in a panel discussion on the impact of regulation on emerging markets private equity just days after LAVCA launched the 2011 Scorecard – our annual ranking which measures regulation and ease of investment for private equity and venture capital in 12 LatAm and Caribbean countries.
