GOOGLE ADQUIERE EMPRESA DO PORTFÓLIO DA FIR CAPITAL
Julho de 2005 -- O Google, criadora de uma das ferramentas de busca na Internet mais premiadas no mundo, anunciou a aquisição de uma das empresas do portfólio da FIR Capital, a Akwan S.A., empresa brasileira líder em tecnologia de busca na América Latina. A venda da empresa ocorreu 4 (quatro) anos após o investimento inicial realizado pela FIR Capital, portanto dentro do período médio estimado para desinvestimentos. FIR Capital.
IFC PROVIDES US$15M TO TELECEL IN PARAGUAY
July 14, 2005 -- Telefonica Celular del Paraguay SA, a subsidiary of Millicom International Cellular SA, will receive $15 million in funding from The International Finance Corp., the World Bank Group's private sector arm. The funding will help to upgrade and expand the company’s cellular telecommunications network in Paraguay. International Finance Corporation.
MEXICAN M&A ADVISORY POWERHOUSE TO RAISE VC FUND
July 15, 2005 -- Local M&A boutique Serficor is currently raising a new fund to invest in Mexico. The team is aiming to raise $75-100 million for the fund, which will be called the Mexico Strategic Fund, and will most likely be structured as a mezzanine fund or a late-stage venture capital fund. Despite local press reports that Serficor has raised $100 million for a Mexican infrastructure fund, the fund is in reality still in its early stages of fund raising. Venture Equity Latin America.

July 18, 2005 -- Finnish development finance company Finnfund will invest US$3mn in the Central American renewable energy, energy efficiency and cleaner production facility (Carec), an official at Carec's developer, said US non-profit organization E+Co. Finnfund's contribution brings Carec's total debt and equity to US$15mn, which it can now start distributing to qualified projects, E+Co Capital Latin America CEO Fernando Alvarado said. DARBY DESTINARÁ US$300M PARA NOVOS PROJETOS BRASILEIROS
22 de julho de 2005 -- A gestora de fundos americana Darby Overseas pretende destinar US$300 milhões para novos investimentos em empresas brasileiras nos próximos anos. O anúncio foi feito ontem pelo principal executivo da Darby, Richard Frank, em visita ao Brasil. Essa cifra triplicará o volume aplicado hoje no país pelos seus fundos, que totaliza US$ 145 milhões. Ele aproveitou a visita para divulgar o mais recente negócio fechado pela Darby no país, a compra de uma participação acionária na TelecomNet, empresa de tecnologia de pagamento eletrônico. SPTEC INVESTS IN BRASQUIP
July 2005 -- Together with partners Eccelera and Proinvest, SPTec, the CRP-managed investment fund, has finalized its fifth investment. After a long negotiation period, the fund has invested in Brasquip, a chemical company that treats industrial liquid waste residues. No financial terms were disclosed. CRP News.

EDENOR STAKE SOLD TO DOLPHIN
July 1, 2005 -- Electricité de France (EDF) sold 65 percent of its stake in Argentine electricity distributor Edenor to the investment fund Dolphin, headed by Marcelo Mindlin, for $100 million. EDF will keep 25 percent of Edenor and 10 percent will remain in the hands of employees. The deal must still be approved by government regulators. PE Wire Week.
ENERGIAS DO BRASIL COMPLETES IPO
July 14, 2005 -- São Paulo-based Energias do Brasil, a unit of EDP-Energias de Portugal, raised $474 million in an initial public offering to fund construction of power plants. The company sold 61.38 million new common shares for $7.72 each, below its target price range of $9.40 to $12 per share. Minority shareholders sold an additional 800,000 shares in a secondary offering. Analysts said the recent corruption scandal involving Brazilian President Lula da Silva´s Workers´ Party hurt demand for the IPO. Latin Finance.
GRUPO TELEVISA BUYS STAKE IN DISCOUNT AIRLINE
July 26, 2005 -- Mexican media conglomerate Grupo Televisa SA said Monday it plans to participate with a 25 percent stake in a new, low-cost airline to be launched in Mexico next year. The carrier, to be called Vuela Compania de Aviacion SA, will be in partnership with Central America carrier Grupo Taca, Mexico's Grupo Financiero Inbursa SA and Discovery Americas I, a private investment fund operated by Protego and Discovery Capital, Televisa said in a filing with the Mexican Stock Exchange.
