-- Serficor is currently raising a new fund to invest in Mexico, according to the local M&A boutique’s founder and partner Leopoldo Burillo. The team is aiming to raise $75-100 million for the fund, which will be called the Mexico Strategic Fund, and will most likely be structured as a mezzanine fund or a late-stage venture capital fund, said Burillo. The fund will probably be domiciled in Canada, as has been the case with a number of other local funds, and will likely offer two classes of shares.
Managing the fund will be Burillo and Serficor colleague Gilberto Escobedo, in addition to Burillo’s partners in Houston-based Latin Capital Partners, Philip Tuttle and E. Barger Miller. The fund’s sponsors comprise a group led by the University of Claremont and Mexico’s Universidad Anahúac, who are, among other things, “supporting us throughout this effort in identifying potential investors. They will also have a role in the management of the fund in terms of investment advisory and providing research support,” said Burillo.
Despite local press reports that Serficor has raised $100 million for a Mexican infrastructure fund, the fund is in reality still in its early stages of fund raising and will focus on acquiring late-stage ventures, most likely in industries such as healthcare, education, and waste management.
